Most of us want to have complete and utter freedom, but sometimes struggling to figure out exactly what that is. Is freedom about not having restrictions? Is it about having money? Is it about having no ties?

In many ways it’s all of the above, but in terms of travel, freedom is about being able to travel whenever you want, within your own space.

How many of you like staying in hotels, hotels, B&Bs and Airbnbs? Be honest. Whilst they’re great in some respects, it’s still somewhat impersonal. So, with that in mind, how about being able to travel in your own space? That’s why so many people have caravans or RVs.

Of course, you can’t fly with such a vehicle, but in terms of exploring a specific region, these types of mobile accommodation are perfect. You can sleep in a bed which is familiar, you can chill out in your own surroundings, and you get to take it all with you, no matter where you choose to go.

Surely that’s the epitome of travel freedom in so many ways!

Of course, just like a regular car or van, caravans and RVs can be subject to issues, e.g. they break down. In that case, it’s important that you know what to do and that you have specific insurance or roadside assistance in place. If you have those things, you’re covered for everything. Knowing how to fix your caravan or RV is also a handy trick, and you’ll find caravan parts quite easily these days, thanks to the growing number of people who are choosing this type of lifestyle.

Could you travel in a caravan? Think about it carefully. If you love to drive then there aren’t many downsides to enjoying this type of travel on a regular basis. You can take your family with you, and if you have children, a caravan or RV could be a godsend. You know how difficult it can be to settle a child in an unfamiliar room or a different bed. With a caravan, you don’t have that issue, as they know the space well. All you need to do is familiarise your little ones with your caravan or RV ahead of time, and you’re good to go!

Most campsites have space for vehicles such as this, but it’s a good idea to call ahead and check. Remember, you can’t simply rock up to a space and park, expecting to be allowed to stay wherever you like. Some areas have rules and some don’t, but by doing your research ahead of time, you’ll be covered for every eventuality.

All that’s left from that point is to plan your route and enjoy the freedom of the open road before you!
